CKEY Questions & Answers

Now that I am at the age when the government is paying ME, there are times that things get a bit fuzzy when trying to bring back some of the memories of the past (like yesterday).

Seems I'm not alone.

This section will deal with visitor questions and, if you know the answer fell free to click on the email link and send it to me.

First up is from g.g. who emailed the following:

"In mid-summer '66 @ approx. 7:00 p.m. each Friday we drove from K-W to Wasaga Beach and around Orangeville on a number of successive Friday evenings heard a "stretched" version of "Early In the Morning" by Buddy Holly (not the Darin/Rinky Dinks version). The part that was stretched was the searing sax solo, and it lasted (seemed like) 5 minutes total.

Can any of you'se guys confirm that someone @ CKEY created this and it was played @ that time successive Friday evenings? Or am I still crazy after all these years?"

g.g.

I still have a 45 of that song but, since I was away from 'EY at that time, I can't recall what g.g. is referring to. Can anyone help?

Here's a question from David Lennick, former CKEY announcer:

"I got lots of memories from that time, and unless John Wilson and Bud Davies are still alive, I may be the only 1968-72 DJ still standing. Where are those two guys anyway?"

I last talked to John Wilson many, many years ago when he was in Vancouver and I was passing through. Never got together, though.
I'm sorry to say that Bud Davies passed away several years ago (I can get the date for you) after a bout with cancer. He and Mollie semi-retired to Florida and he did a stint on an FMer in Pompano Beach. One of the truly nice guys in the business.
Looking forward to sharing your memories with us David.

We received an email from Elaine Davis regarding one of the CKEY Christmas parties that we hosted in the 80s.. perhaps you can help:

"Please send me if you can pictures of the first CKEY Christmas kids party in 1981, that was given to the Ontario Housing children and the children of low income families.
My daughter Michelle was there and a friend named Esther, Michelle was 8 years old at the time, this is 27 years later. If you can't send pictures please send whatever you have. I would like to walk down memory lane. If there is any other type of info that I can send you to make it easier to find please let me know, so I can rack my brain about the event.

Thank you in advance.
Elaine Davis."

If you have anything to help jog Elaine's memory, get in touch with us and we'll pass the information along to Elaine.
