BRUCE THE BATTERY
On a very, very cold winter morning I was flying our Cessna Skymaster over Scarborough when, during the 8:00am newscast, Rob Whitehead, our very talented morning show producer (they weren't called operators anymore) called up to me that we were going to do a bit of fun in about 15 minutes about a dead battery.
I should explain that, since the inception of our morning wackiness we every seldom planned anything since it was the spontaneousness of what we did that our listeners seemed to enjoy most.
This, however, would be a bit different since the three of us, Keith Rich, Robert Payne and I, were to each contribute a short segement to the Ode To A Dead Battery. None of us knew what the other was going to say.
This is what happened and, to this very day, I get asked about Bruce The Battery. A very special thanks to Rob for taking care of it for these many years.

BUY THOSE SHREDDIES
One way of getting attention by a sponsor is by giving them a free mention on the air (not that anyone of us would do such a thing.. oh, no!)
It seems that Robert Payne was the guest of the folk at Nabisco for a Blue Jay game in one of those fancy Sky Boxes at the then SkyDome (now Rogers Centre). Too bad he did mention it on the air because it left a big opening for Keith and me to jump in on his plug for the company and add a few of our own.

THE WIZNOUSKI WEEKEND
Mary Wiznouski was a CBS News correspondent in Moscow who frequently appeared on our newscasts. It seems that Keith and Robert just couldn't get her out of their minds. By the way, the brief laughter at the end of the clip is from my traffic partner, Dianne Pepper, who was next up.

RHODE ROAD KILL
I think this on-air banter between Keith and Robert shows what can happen when you don't look at what commercial is coming up.
