CKEY Radio Memories

DUFF ROMAN

Duff joined CKEY in 1959 in the Jack Kent Cooke era. Cooke didn't think his real name, Dave Mostoway, would catch on and urged him to change it. Duff was his nickname and Roman was his brother's first name.

In addition to his on-air work from '59 through '65, Duff also was a major supporter of the Canadian music industry having recorded The Paupers, David Clayton Thomas and Candy Scott for his own labels, Red Leaf and Roman Records, as well as promoting other Canadian talent at summer dances held in the Muskoka area and throughout the year at venues in and around Toronto.

His later on-air work at CHUM was eclipsed by his promotion through the management hierachy at the company and, along the way, he has won numerous awards including Ontario 'Broadcaster of the Year', induction into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Broadcast Hall of Fame and the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame.

No one deserves these honours more.
